An Antonov An-12 carrying live chicks caught fire at the Leipzig/Halle Airport in the early hours of Friday, aero.de reported.
The Ukraine-Aeroaliance Airline operated aircraft burnt to the tarmac from 02:00 (local). Apparently the fire started when the engines were started for a flight to Mineralnye Vody, Russia.
According to Russian media reports, the 7 crew members were not hurt in the fire. It's not thought the chicks survived.
Regular operations at Leipzig, located about two hours south of Berlin, resumed at 03:00. About 60 crew and 15 emergency vehicles were involved in extinguishing the fire, the airport said. The cargo hub was closed for 52 minutes.
